Ellmers Statement on Troop Cuts at Fort Bragg

Statement

Date: July 9, 2015

Congresswoman Renee Ellmers (R-NC-02), the Representative of Fort Bragg, issued the following statement after the U.S. Army's announcement regarding a reduction of 842 military positions at Fort Bragg:

"Further cuts are not the answer, especially at Fort Bragg as it is home of America's contingency corps and the U.S. Army's most critical installation. These cuts take us backwards--and at a time when there are mounting threats abroad, it is all the more imperative the U.S. maintains a robust military."

"Fort Bragg is a way of life in Fayetteville, and everyone feels the disproportionate impact of these cuts-- our service men and women, locally-owned business and the community at large. Despite this news I am confident that Fort Bragg will be prepared to fulfil any mission, and I will continue working with military leaders to ensure our troops are fully equipped in order to defend our nation."

Per an announcement released by the U.S Army today, there will be a net reduction of 842 military positions at Fort Bragg by fiscal year 2017. The Fayetteville Observer reported this week on a pending announcement from the U.S. Army pertaining to troop cuts. These announcements are expected to affect 40,000 soldiers and 17,000 Army civilians nationwide by the end of 2017.
